In the museum of world-wide reputation the masterpieces of Raffaello, Piero della Francesca, Caravaggio and Van Dyck
In the baroque late frame of Palazzo Brera
, the homonymous Pinacoteca
has center. The collections then include various paintings which requisitioned in teresiana and before napoleonic age. Between the works there are the celebrated Wedding of the Virgo of Raffaello Sanzio, Madonna with the Child of Giovanni Bellini, Crucifixion of Bramantino and paintings of the Flemish painters Rubens, Joardens, Van Dyck and Rembrandt. From Milanese and Lombardic churches they have reached moreover frescoes of authors which Bernardino Luini, Gaudenzio Ferrari, Vincenzo Foppa, Bergognone and Bramantino. There are important works of Correggio, Pietro Longhi, Square, Tiepolo, Narrow channel and Factors, let alone the Supper in Emmaus of Caravaggio and the Trellis work of Silvestro Lega, acquired thanks to the Association Friendly of Brera and the Milanese Museums.
Because of the heavy strafings that hit Milan in 1943, Palazzo Brera was a lot damaged. The Pinacoteca, with a new preparation di Pietro Portaluppi, reopened in 1950. In the Seventies, the Emilios and Maria Jesi donated to the museum some works of the greater artists of the first 1900´s, between which Boccioni, Braque, Carrà, De Pisis, Marino Marini, Modigliani and Morandi, while a part of the collection of Lamberto and America Vitali was entrusted to the museum in 2001.
